UNISON has a growing network of active black members throughout the public services.

The Regional Black Members Group seeks to:

  • Raise awareness about race discrimination
  • Tackle discrimination at work
  • Campaign for the rights of black workers
  • Mainstream key negotiating areas for black workers
  • Provide trade union training for black members
  • Give a voice to black members key issues
  • Develop and encourage black members to become activists
  • Develop black members networks within UNISON's rules

The Regional Black Members Group encourages UNISON branches to support their black members and to recognise their needs. Through the Group, black members are represented at Regional and National levels within UNISON. The Group meets 4 times a year and has an active presence at events such as the St Paul's Carnival as well as putting on it's own events including the popular Black History Trail around the city of Bristol.
