Our 25,000 members include learning support staff, librarians, IT specialists, technicians, professional staff, administrative and business support staff, cleaners, canteen staff and estate management staff.

If you would like to get involved, or learn more, contact your branch. There are lots of ways you can help while also building on your own learning and skills through the union. If you become a representative, we will offer you training much of which helps you to gain learning credits.

South West FE Forum

  • The Forum is for UNISON Stewards representing members working in Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges in the South West. It is a subcommittee of the South West Region Local Government Committee.
  • The Forum meets three times per year and provides an opportunity for stewards to share issues in the workplace, receive reports from the Regional Local Government Service Group Committee and the National Further Education and Sixth Form College Sector Committee and organise around national, regional and local campaigns. A copy of the constitution is attached below
  • Two representatives to the National Further Education and Sixth Form Committee Sector Committee are elected annually by the South West Region Local Government Committee to represent UNISON members working in colleges in the region.
  • The Regional FE Forum meets the Regional Higher Education Committee once a year to discuss issues of common concern.
  • There is an annual Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges Seminar in the Spring and stewards representing members in Colleges should contact their branches to request nomination to the seminar. This is a great opportunity to meet stewards from other colleges around the country, participate in presentations and discussions about the main issues facing staff working in colleges and take part in workshops. Places are on a first come first served basis and branches are expected to contribute towards the cost.
