    Thousands of Cornwall’s workers will wake up this morning with a smile on their face, due to pay increases to implement the Living Wage. The minimum amount for workers at Cornwall Council will rise to £7.85 from 1 April, which equates to £15,100pa for a full time role.

    UNISON Somerset County Branch welcomes that the recent Ofsted report on Children’s Services recognised the effort and good practice of staff. It is important to acknowledge how vital the goodwill and dedication of its staff has been to the continued delivery of services in Somerset. This is despite the pressures and huge challenges that these same staff have faced over the past 6 years. However, nothing can disguise that this report rated this vital service as ‘Inadequate’.
